Biography: Joy M. Campbell, she/her, (B.A. in French and International and Area Studies, Kalamazoo College, M.A. in TESOL, Monterey Institute for International Studies) served as the Executive Associate Director of MSU’s Center for Language Education and Research (CLEAR) from 2004-2019 and in 2020 was appointed the Fulbright Program Adviser for MSU. In 2021, Joy was named the Program Coordinator for MSU’s new Peace Corps Prep undergraduate certificate program, and in 2022, she took over supervision of the Peace Corps Recruitment Office.

Joy’s entire career has been related to international education. She has taught in France (teaching assistantship), Morocco (Peace Corps), and as a full-time faculty member at MSU’s English Language Center, where she began her MSU career. She has also done teacher training for EFL and ESL teachers. Joy was awarded the 2017 Distinguished Service Award from the Michigan World Language Association in recognition for outstanding service in World Language education, in large part due to her work chairing MSU’s World Languages Day event from 2005-2018.

In her role as Fulbright Program Adviser, Joy works with undergraduate and graduate students, assisting them throughout the Fulbright application process, in addition to publicizing the various Fulbright programs and serving as a liaison to constituents both on and off campus. As the Peace Corps Prep Program Coordinator, Joy advises undergraduate students interested in the certificate, and works with them throughout the application and completion process. The Peace Corps Prep program articulates with the Peace Corps Recruitment Office, one of only two university recruitment offices in Michigan. Joy supervises MSU’s strategic recruiters, working with them to promote Peace Corps opportunities on campus and beyond.
